Global Field Immersion

A required part of your EMBA studies, the week-long field immersion brings your entire class together in an international business hub to uncover the key factors influencing global business success through a mix of lectures, company visits, and discussions with local business and government leaders. Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM)

Berkeley Haas is part of the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), which leverages resources from 32 leading global business schools in over 30 countries, bringing students together to explore how business is done in countries at every stage of their development. Small Network Online Courses, offered in the fall and spring, allow you to experience a global business perspective without leaving your own country. Global Network Weeks allow you to study at one of GNAM's member schools at a variety of international locations.

International Experiences Through GNAM

These students and alum share the impact their international GNAM experiences had on their EMBA journey:

GNAM Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

On a GNAM study trip to Ireland during her EMBA program, Laura Hassner, EMBA 18, found herself in a Dublin supermarket chatting with a Slovakian classmate who co-owns 250 bakery outlets about the difference between stores that buy dough from factories versus those that bake from scratch. This business strategy conversation was one of many outlining the unique challenges facing small businesses as well as conglomerates during a “The Future of Food” course taught at University College Dublin’s Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.

Brian Tajo

Manila, Philippines

Brian Tajo, EMBA 18, who moved to the U.S. from the Philippines as a child, traveled to the Asian Institute of Management in Manila for a class on growth strategies for southeast Asian nations for his GNAM experience. He has family living in the Philippines and said that the course strengthened his understanding of the economies of southeast Asia and will help him ultimately fulfill a personal goal of working in economic development in the Philippines. “That aligned with my life ambition. Given the growth potential of southeast Asia, I’m fortunate to have a head-start in learning about the region," he said.

Nando Cooke

Ghana, West Africa

The highlight of Howard "Nando" Cooke's time at Haas was participating in GNAM. In Ghana, working with a team of MBA students from Haas and Yale, he helped get a hospital up and running. “They built this beautiful facility but had no plans for running it,” Nando, EMBA 19, said. Suddenly, he found himself right in his element. “Not only did I have the knowledge within healthcare, and the knowledge of having run businesses in the U.S., but now I had a Berkeley MBA background that I could use to help them run this enterprise. I felt really special.”
