Diversity & Inclusion
Our Diversity Commitment
The Haas School of Business has an unequivocal commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion as defined by the University of California Office of the President and UC Berkeley’s Office of Equity & Inclusion.
We believe that diversity includes supporting and respecting the experiences, values, and worldviews that arise from differences in culture and circumstance. These differences include race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, language, abilities/disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, political diversity, socioeconomic status and geographic region, and more.
Berkeley Haas is committed to recruiting the most diverse students, faculty, and staff; this enhances our mission, community, and academic excellence. We seek to provide an inclusive environment where all are treated fairly and have equal access to opportunities. This commitment lies at the heart of our mission as part of a public university.
Staff, faculty, and students work together to ensure that Berkeley Haas is a welcoming environment for everyone.
They carefully select the cohort to complement each other. They don’t want a cohort full of all of the same kind of person, and they put you in teams where everybody is contributing their own lived experience."

You’ll be embraced and excited by a community of smart, successful, high-achieving women who support each other’s success. You can rely on their generosity and wisdom as you find your own balance among life, work, and school—just as they found theirs.
- The Berkeley Haas Women in Leadership (WIL) club plays a major role in providing educational, professional, and social events that enhance the awareness and understanding of women’s roles in business. For two decades, their Women in Leadership Conference has rallied more than 400 people each year to learn from and connect with each other and build skills to advance their paths to leadership and success.
- Berkeley Haas has also launched a new Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership. Hear Founding Director and Professor Kellie McElhaney and students discuss the purpose and activities of our Center for Equity, Gender & Leadership in this webinar.
- The Beatrice Bain Research Group supports and coordinates feminist scholarship across disciplines.
- The Department of Gender and Women's Studies offers interdisciplinary perspectives on how gender is formed and intersects with other relations of power.
We believe that the corporate world and society at large are enriched by the participation of historically underrepresented minorities (URM) in business education.
By embracing our Defining Leadership Principles of Question the Status Quo and Beyond Yourself, all students contribute to our initiatives to support URM undergraduates and prospective students interested in business education. The entire Berkeley Haas community is engaged in nurturing an inclusive culture.

Campus Resources
- The Office for Graduate Diversity (OGD) offers support services for prospective and continuing students on the Berkeley campus to foster a diverse graduate student community.
- UC Berkeley's Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society convenes community members, researchers, communicators, and policymakers, to identify and challenge the barriers to a sustainable, inclusive, and just society in the search for transformative change.
We are proud of our active, vocal ally culture at Berkeley Haas, ensuring that our LGBTQ students feel comfortable showing up as their authentic selves in class, at events, and on campus. Their classmates’ open attitude and genuine interest encourage LGBTQ students to share their stories. This leads to improved understanding and support of LGBTQ issues at Haas and across the Berkeley campus.
Faculty thought-leaders on LGBTQ issues share their research, often in real time, giving students the opportunity to contribute to and influence the forward motion of awareness and understanding of these issues.
Q@Haas, our well-established student club serving the Berkeley Haas LGBTQ community has four goals:
- Build and support lasting connections between and among students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
- Enhance the professional and personal development of LGBTQ students.
- Increase LGBTQ visibility within the larger school community, ensuring we retain an open and inclusive environment.
- Build awareness around issues of diversity at school and in the workplace.
Campus Resources
- The Gender Equity Resource Center at Berkeley, the campus hub for LGBTQ education, advocacy, and support.
- Queer Caucus at Berkeley Law, providing social opportunities and support for members and organizing events related to political, social, and legal issues affecting the LGBTQ community.
